Class consisting of instruction in both tap and ballet disciplines learning basic introductory steps and movements. At this beginner level dancers will also start to learn musicality, timing and balance while interacting with others.

• Dancers must be fully potty trained and comfortable going into class alone (without a parent).

Jazz is a fun and high energy style of dance! All classes will start with a warm-up and muscle stretch to develop and improve flexibility. Class consists of beginner jazz movements including barre technique, body isolations, traveling steps and learning a routine for competition.

(Experienced Jazz dancers with 3+ years)

Typical class structure continues starting with a warm-up and muscle stretch to develop and improve flexibility. Emphasis is placed on the importance of energy, rhythmical accuracy, and style. Each level progressing in difficulty of style, technique, turns and jumps while also learning a routine for competition.

Class consists of barre development work, centre floor exercises, and all aspects of ballet technique. Dancers will be taught strength, balance, discipline and grace along with learning a routine for competition.

Lyrical jazz uses ballet, jazz and modern movement to convey the lyrics of a slower piece of music.  Class consists of technique, traveling steps, turning, balancing movement and learning a routine for competition. Dancers should have a strong background in ballet and be old enough to interpret and understand the emotion of the lyrics in a song. 

• Dancers attend 3-4 local competitions and perform in our year-end recital

• Black Jazz Oxford shoes are required*  (unless specified otherwise when costumes are chosen) 

Enrollment Requirements:

• must be currently enrolled in a Jazz class to participate in lyrical

• Ballet experience is strongly recommended

Contemporary dance combines elements of modern, jazz, lyrical and ballet.  This style strives to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements, stressing versatility and free-form improvisation. Contemporary dancers focus on floor work utilizing gravity, free patterns of movement and self-expression.  The genre is often done in bare feet, and can be performed to many different styles of music.

• Dancers attend 3-4 local competitions and perform in our year-end recital

Enrollment Requirements:

• must be currently enrolled in a Jazz & Lyrical class to participate

• Ballet experience is strongly recommended

Hip Hop is an upbeat street style of dance integrated with energetic music from various genres. Dancers will work on hip hop style and technique as well as their rhythm, precision and freestyle to create movement using isolations, body flow and strength. Class will consist of warm-up, centre and traveling exercises and may involve elements of popping, breaking and house styles. 

• Dancers attend 3-4 local competitions and perform a routine in our year-end recital

• Clean, indoor, non-marking runners are required along with loose clothing (no jeans)

We offer a boys only hip hop class for the younger ages (only up until 10 years) providing there is enough interest to run it as a separate class! Hip Hop is an upbeat street style of dance integrated with energetic music from various genres. Dancers will work on hip hop style and technique as well as their rhythm, precision and freestyle to create movement using isolations, body flow and strength. Class will consist of warm-up, centre and traveling exercises and may involve elements of popping, breaking and house styles. 

• Dancers attend 2 local competitions and perform a routine in our year-end recital

• Clean, indoor, non-marking runners are required along with loose clothing (no jeans)

*For Ages 11+, or if Boys only registration does not permit, dancers will be placed into co-ed classes based on age and experience.

CLASS IS OFFERED ON SATURDAYs ONLY

Class progressions include basic acrobatics skills such as somersaults, balancing tricks, cartwheels etc. This class will consist of floor exercises only, there will be no apparatus used.  Dancers will continue to progress in class as each trick/skill is accomplished.

• Dancers may attend 1 local competition and perform in our year-end recital

Students will be evaluated and separated by age, ability, and experience pending enrollment. Various ages may be combined into one class.

Musical Theatre is a cross between dancing and acting where the routine works to entertain the audience and tell a story. Class focuses on lip synchronization, character portrayal and dance movement all combined to encourage dramatization and stage presentation.

Enrollment Requirements:

Dance experience is required to participate in this class.

Jazz, Tap and Ballet Technique Classes are offered.

Emphasis will be on improving the dancers technique and conditioning in the discipline. Skill development using barre and centre floor exercises will be incorporated providing the dancer with an opportunity to focus on their flexibility and strengthen their technique.

Enrollment Requirements:

• must be taken in conjunction with the corresponding choreography class

• Technique class is mandatory for all CDTA Exam students enrolled in Grade 3 & up

Tap, Jazz & Ballet Syllabus

The CDTA Exam program is a valuable part of any dancers development and is for serious, committed dancers interested in furthering their dance education and becoming potential dance instructors in the future. 

• minimum of one year experience in Exam discipline

• must be currently enrolled in a weekly choreography class of your exam discipline.

• must be currently enrolled in a weekly Ballet class

• Exams Grade 3+ must be enrolled in appropriate weekly Technique class.

• Ballet Exam dancers Grade 5+ will be enrolled in a weekly pointe class in preparation for major level examinations.
